February Favorites – Movies

First off, kudos to anyone who creates social media full-time on a part-time schedule. It can be really hard to prioritize and make time for writing and sharing on part-time hours. The funny thing is that I’m always thinking about it. What’s my next post? What’s my next topic? Do I have enough for a full post? But you still have to take the time to write the posts.

My February Favorites got pushed back a little. So I have several posts of favorites started but not finished. I’ll publish more of these intermittently throughout the year.

I’ll finish February on a Favorite Movies post. Everyone has a list of favorite movies for different reasons. I categorized these a little. There are other movies that I like in each category, but these are my top movies. For the most part, I consider my favorite movies as movies I’ll watch over and over again and still enjoy them.

What are your favorite movies?

Top 2

  1. Star Wars – Empire Strikes Back – Return of the Jedi
  2. Guardians of the Galaxy 1 & 2
Artwork bid on at the grocery store.

For anyone that knows me, this should be obvious. I love Star Wars and I love the Guardians of the Galaxy. A lot of the artwork in our main room is dedicated to these franchises.

The original Star Wars trilogy might be the best set of movies that stands the test of time. It’s classic. I love light sabers. I love space. My arcade is built with a cosmetic Star Wars theme.

Guardians of the Galaxy are just a perfect mix of action and humor. I love Star Lord. he’s my favorite character. He’s so cool. I’ve cosplayed Star Lord. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that this is on the top of my list.

That’s me as Star Lord!!

Favorite Golf Movies

  1. Happy Gilmore
  2. Caddyshack
  3. Tin Cup – honorable mention.
Happy Gilmore – IMDB

These are classic golf movies that not only incorporate golf but lessons about life. Obviously the top two movies have a comedy focus, but do it very well. What golfer doesn’t recognize Happy Gilmore, the Caddyshack gopher or call out tin cup during a round!

Favorite Cartoons

  1. Little Mermaid
  2. Fantasia
Fantasia – IMDB

I owned an original VHS tape of both of these movies. My only tattoo is one of Mickey Mouse from Fantasia as the magician.

I love the Little Mermaid. I love the songs. The movie is so fun to watch. And Fantasia is an absolute Disney classic. Although, Fantasia might be only one of two movies on this list that I have to be in the mood to watch.

Favorite Action/Comedy

  1. Golden Child
  2. Big Trouble in Little China
  3. Jackass #1
  4. Big Man on Campus
Victor Wong in Golden Child – IMDB

I don’t really know why I love Golden Child and Big Trouble in Little China so much. I guess they combine a perfect amount of action, comedy and supernatural. I definitely loved Eddie Murphy in the 80s. Maybe it’s Victor Wong that brings it all together!!

Jackass could be in a category by itself. I remember renting the first movie during a road trip. There were 4 or 5 of us watching it in my room. And we got a call from the hotel lobby to keep it down. We were all laughing too loud!! As long as they don’t take the stunt too far or too dirty, this kind of slapstick comedy gets me giggling every time!

Big Man on Campus is not a well known movie. You might not have heard of it. My wife and I had a movie weekend when we watched some of our favorites and I tried to find this one. I had to rent it from YouTube. It’s a comedy loosely based on the Hunchback of Notre Dame. This movie is classic for me and Bob Maloogaloogaloogaloogalooga steals the show!

Favorite Computer Movie

  1. Hackers
Hackers – IMDB

I mean, this is a classic. Great action. Great music. Solid cast. I love the incorporation of a hacking/computer theme. I mean I’m not sure how to categorize this movie, but Hackers makes my list of top movies!

Favorite Martial Art Movie

  1. Bloodsport
Bloodsport – IMDB

Welcome to Jean-Claude van Damme (JCVD)! Bruce Lee is a little before my time, but he’s the best martial artist to every appear in film. Bloodsport hits a special mark for me and I’m always up for watching this film! The film was pretty revolutionary for its display of different martial arts.

Favorite Gangster Movie

  1. Goodfellas
Goodfellas – IMDB

I guess it’s not a coincidence that a lot of my favorite movies are in the 1980s++ eras. Anything earlier doesn’t really make my list since I didn’t watch movies much until the late 70s or early 80s. There are a lot of gangster films but I love Goodfellas. I used to work in a video store in the nineties and had an original movie poster from this film.

The casting is perfect as Liotta, De Niro and Pesci put up award winning performances. Somehow, this film only wins 1 Oscar!

Favorite Christmas Movie

  1. Scrooged
Scrooged – IMDB

Every year, my wife and I attend a live showing of A Christmas Carol. It’s my favorite Christmas story, and Scrooged is my favorite version of the story. Bill Murray is so funny in this film. The film is well done and keeps the original message intact. Every Christmas Eve, you’ll find me cuddling up on the couch, with this on the tv…cracking up. It’s tradition!

The movie that made me cry

  1. Schindler’s List

This is a bit of an honorable mention. Before I got more in “touch with my feelings”, I didn’t cry watching movies. I cry a lot now watching movies that touch me. But it wasn’t always this way. And Schindler’s List was the first movie to make me cry.

Schindler’s List won 7 Oscars. It’s a beautiful story about a terrible topic. This is not a movie that I’ll watch over and over. But it makes my list. I’m not even sure I’ve ever watched this more than once. Perhaps this is a March goal to watch again.

Wrap Up

February is over and I didn’t get thru as many list of my favorite things as planned. But I hope you enjoyed my posts in February.

So what movies are your favorites? What movie will you watch over and over?
